The Birthplace Study states ‘giving birth is generally very safe’ but in the US in 2008, 94% of all births reported some complication (Elixhauser and Wier).
Now this is certainly not meant to scare a birthing woman, it simply means to prompt you to ask questions and determine what are the real risks, the absolute risks of any complications you are deemed to have.
It is said, the UK often follow the US. A country whose C-Section rate is the highest of any country in the Western World and it has also has the highest maternal mortality rate of any Country in the Western World.
So please don’t think increasing medicalisation of birth is necessarily for our safety.
